Braintree District Art’s popular exhibition ‘Open Art’ returned to the museum on Saturday 31st May. On display until Saturday 26th July, the display showcases over 70 pieces of artwork selected from submissions by artists across the district. With a range of different media used and a variety of subject matters, from water-front scenes to portraits and abstract, there is something to appeal to all interests. There were 47 guests at the exhibition’s private view on Friday 30th May when this year’s prize winners were announced.
Vote for your favourite piece!
Visitors to the exhibition are invited to vote for their favourite artwork on display and the winner will receive a Community prize.
Take a painting home
The majority of the artworks are also for sale, pieces are individually priced in the gallery. If you are looking for something new for your home, don’t forget to take a look at this exhibition.

As part of Children’s Art Week and Adult Learners’ Week, and inspired the Open Art exhibition, Braintree District Museum is running an art and pottery workshop on Saturday 21st June 2014. No pre-booking is required so you can drop in on the day. This event is designed for the whole family and not only can you take away what you make but this also gives you the opportunity to explore the museum itself. The price is £1.50 each for both adults and children. This event is also accredited by the Children’s University.
